"Don't Stop" by Innerpartysystem

The road I walk is paved in gold

To glorify my platinum soul

I'll buy my way to talk to God

So he can live with what I'm not.

The selfish blood runs through my vains

I gave up everything for fame

I am the life that you adore

I feed the rich and fuck the poor.

I got, you want

It's just, don't stop

I got, you wantIt's just, don't stop.

This is entertainment

Lives are entertainment

You are down on your knees

Begging me for more.

The road I walk is paved in gold

To glorify my platinum soul

I am the closest thing to God

So worship me and never stop.

The wretched blood runs through my vains

I gave up everything for fame

I am the life that you adore

Now feed the rich, fuck the poor.

I got, you want

It's just, don't stop

I got, you want

It's just, don't stop.

This is entertainment

Lives are entertainment

You are down on your knees

Begging me for more.

Dear future,I bought you,I own the rights

To let go

Destroy you

This is my life.

Dear future, I bought youI own the rights,

To let go

Destroy you

This is my life....inside.....

I've got, you want

This is, don't stop

I've got, you want

It just, don't stop.

This is entertainmentLives are entertainment

You are down on your knees

Begging me for more.(Begging me for more)

Begging me for more.(I've got, you want

It's just, don't stop)

This song by Innerpartysystem holds a very powerful message. It shows how bad the media and pop culture indusrty has become. Everything is all about having money, getting drunk, doing stupid stuff, and getting more money for it. This is the hollywood part of it, there is also another side to it. The media side. This song also shows how bad the media has become. How they only show the bad and most of the information is corrupt anyways.

"Zombies Ate My Neighbors" by Single File

Call the neighbor kids,With trash can lids, and buckets on their heads...

Cuz I'm tellin' you, we're gonna need a little help tonight...

So hey man, check this out:

Downtown's a riot, and somethin's spreadin' through the crowd.

Try channel 9-- I'm pretty sure they're headed straight for this part of town.

I can't be certain, but I swear I hear'em just outside. There's no way that this is real, so count me in...

Call the neighbor kids,With trash can lids, and buckets on their heads...

Cuz I'm tellin' you, we're gonna need a little help tonight...
So grab something sharp, find some cover,Kill the lights, and nail the back door shut.

This isn't funny anymore; oh no, this means war.

Don't take this the wrong way,But I'd much rather choke and die,Than sit alone and fall without a fight...

So call the neighbor kids,With trash can lids, and buckets on their heads...

Cuz I'm tellin' you, we're gonna need a little help tonight...

So call the neighbor kids,With trash can lids, and buckets on their heads...

Cuz I'm tellin' you, we're gonna need a little help tonight...

And there she was, glaring,Through olive eyes and chalk-white skin...

I want you to know that I won't be holding back tonight...

She stole my heart.I'll be taking hers with a lawn dart now,But look at the bright side:It's not like she had one there to start...

So grab something sharp, find some cover,Kill the lights, and nail the back door shut.

This isn't funny anymore; oh no, this means war.

And somethin' tells me, it's gonna be a long night.

Call the neighbor kids,With trash can lids, and buckets on their heads...

Cuz I'm tellin' you, we're gonna need a little help tonight...

So call the neighbor kids,With trash can lids, and buckets on their heads...

Cuz I'm tellin' you, we're gonna need a little help tonight...

This is probably the last song you would think to hold some sort of political message, but alas it does. There is pretty much a central theme to this song, Zombie Invasion. But the real message is disease. Right now in the news is the dreaded Swine Flu going around Mexico. This is a very serious disease that will put you in the hospital and will make you very sick. This is a big government concern because it could cause a mass epidemic, this would make it so people would have to lock themselves in their houses and avoid contact with large groups of people. With the all ready bad economy this could make things even worse.

"Mind Over Matter" By First Class Fever

'Cause I'm feeling more sick than I have before
And I can’t tell if I'm on the ceiling or the floor
Now I'm waking up in someone’s arms
Saying "How did I get here?"

It started off with just one sip I could feel it racin’ through my fingertips
And I couldn't tell if the lights were right
But the apathetic mood took control that night

And I don't know what I did,
Don't remember what I said,
Don't remember what this led to

Cause I'm feeling more sick than I have before
And I can’t tell if I'm on the ceiling or the floor
Now I'm waking up in someone’s arms
Saying "How did I get here?"
And if it wasn't for you I never would've done this
But all of my friends know I'm a sucker for a crisis
Now I'm stuck in mind over matter,
You don't mind and I don't matter.

SHOT ONE!
SHOT FOUR!

That's one too many as I hit the floor
And now gravity's trying to hold me down
But my own damn conscience won't hold its ground

And I don't know what I did,
Don't remember what I said,
Don't remember what this led to

Cause I'm feeling more sick than I have before
And I can’t tell if I'm on the ceiling or the floor
Now I'm waking up in someone’s arms
Saying "How did I get here?"
And if it wasn't for you I never would've done this
But all of my friends know I'm a sucker for a crisis
Now I'm stuck in mind over matter,
You don't mind and I don't matter.

Here's where I lay,
I don't know my charts but I think I'm a goner
Here's where you say,
"I don't really mind but we should've started sooner"

'Cause I'm feeling more sick than I have before
And I can’t tell if I'm on the ceiling or the floor
(Here's where I lay,)
Now I'm waking up in someone’s arms
Saying "How did I get here?"
(I don't know my charts but I think I'm a goner)
And if it wasn't for you I never would've done this
But all of my friends know I'm a sucker for a crisis
(Here's where you say)
Now I'm stuck in mind over matter,
You don't mind and I don't matter.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This song has a great party atmosphere to it. It sounds like its the first time this kid has been to a party, seen as the lines "I'm feeling more sick than I have before/And I can't tell if I'm on the cealing or the floor" This shows that there is also alcohol at the party, so this kid is obviously smashed. This is also great imagary. You can feel that sickness running through you and the song makes you head feel like it is spinning. Of course as in most music there is a love theme. This kid must have met his ex-significant other at the party or close to it becuase he's drinking as much as he can to try and forget this person. As seen in the lines "If it wasn't for you I never would have done this/But all of my friends know I'm a sucker for a crisis". But not like one of those grab a beer, head to the old pickup truck, and drive to froget. This is a happier song. This is a let's party till we froget all of our troubles type song. Overall the song has a lot of good things to imagine while listening to it.

"Always Attract" by You Me At Six (Song Analysis 2)

Song Analysis 2
The song “Always Attract” by You Me At Six is a beautifully crafted song with poetic devices scattered throughout it. This song is about a couple who just can’t seem to get it right. They are always fighting and going in and out of love, as seen in the lyrics “If it hurts this much/It must be love.” This line shows that even though they fight and break up it still hurts, which means that they still must have some feelings for the other. In the first verse “If it hurts this much/Then it must be love/And it's a lottery/I can't wait to draw your name/Oh I’m trying to get to you/But time isn't on my side/If the truth's the worst I can do/Then I guess that I have lied” this is where he is trying to get back with the girl. The line “Of I’m trying to get you/But time isn’t on my side/If the truths the worst I can do/ Then I guess I have lied” really shows this because he probably told the girl something she didn’t want to hear and then left him, so now he’s trying to get back yet has to lie to do so. There is also some metaphor in this verse, in the lines “And it’s the lottery/I can’t wait to draw your name.” This is a metaphor because it’s not really the lottery but he feels like he’s won the lottery every time he thinks about her.
The second verse strengthens the same point. “Keeping me awake/It's been like this now for days/My heart is out at sea/My head all over the place/I'm losing sense of time/And everything tastes the same/I'll be home in a day/I fear that’s a month too late.” This is the verse where you can really tell he’s hurting. He can’t sleep, his heart keeps going up and down (Like it’s on the waves), his mind keeps drifting (Probably back to her), and nothing seems new everything thing seems old and boring. Now he’s on his way back but he’s afraid that he’ll be too late to do anything. There is a lot of metaphor in this verse as well. “My heart is out to sea.” His heart isn’t really out to sea, but he feels like he is drifting on the waves. “My mind all over the place” His mind isn’t really everywhere, it’s still in his head but it keeps drifting and thinking about different things. And lastly is the line “And everything tastes the same.” Everything should taste different (unless he’s eating the same food) but since he is so emotionally depressed nothing seems new and everything has the same taste.
“That night I slept/On your side of the bed so/It was ready when you got home/we’re like circles and crosses in that/Opposites always attract” One of the choruses in the song, this shows that he still misses her and the it was ready when you got home part gives us hope that she’ll be coming back. They also use a simile in this chorus, “We’re like circles and crosses/Opposites always attract” This line is a simile because they are saying their circles and crosses. This line also gives the listener hope that they’ll come back together because opposites attract.
“You've taken me to the top/And let me fall back south/You've had me at the top of the pile/And then had me kissing the ground/We've heard and seen it all/No one's talked us out/The problems that have come/Haven't yet torn us down” This is the last verse of the song and shows what actually happened to him while in the relationship and gives a little last burst of hope. His significant other pretty much made him feel awesome and then let him down, and did this multiple times until at last it was too much to handle. The line “We’ve seen and done it all” shows that they have been together for a long time and the lines “The problems that have come/Haven’t yet torn us down” giving a little more hope to the cause of her coming back. There are also metaphors in this section too. Both “you had me at the top” is saying that he wasn’t really at the top of anything, but he felt great and then the other two lines “You let me fall back down” and “And then had me kissing the ground” mean that he wasn’t really falling or hitting the ground but she then made him really depressed and sad.
Lastly is the bridge “Am I keeping you awake? If I am then just say.You can make your own decisions you can make your own mistakes I'll live and let die all the promises you made/But if you lie another time, it'll be a lie that's too late” This section shows that he has finally had enough. He has had enough of her lying and pushing him around and if she lies one more time then that’s it, he’s done. Overall this song is a beautifully crafted love song that anyone with a broken heart would feel better after listening to.

I Miss This-Found Poem

You can feel
How I feel
I’m telling you
Olive Eyes stole my heart
Kill the lights
Get Close
Something’s going wrong
We’re moving along
I never felt more like dying
It’s so damn cold
She’s still around
I miss this

"All Angel No Wings" by To Be Juliet's Secret

Anaphora:

Why did you have to break me down,
So badly this time?
Why did you have to break me down,
So badly this life?

Why did you have to run on a night,
Like this?
I thought, I made it so beautiful.
I tried, my best to make it perfect for you.
Because, you were always so perfect for me.

All I ever wanted was to fly away with you.
All I ever wanted was to fly away with you.

But dear I was so scared that you would let me fall.
But dear I was so scared that you would let me fall.
But I don't see how I could when, I can't even take my eyes off of you.
But I don't see how I could when, I can't even take my heart off of you.

So I guess if you go down, I'm going down with you.
So I guess if you go down, we're going down together.
(All I ever wanted, was to die with you.)
So I guess if you go down, I'm going down with you.
(All I ever wanted, was to die together.)
So I guess if you go down, we're going down together
(All I ever wanted, I'm going to die with you.)
So I guess if you go down, I'm going down with you.
(All I ever wanted, we're going to die together.)
So I guess if you go down, we're going down together

But dear you were so scared that I would, let you fall.
But dear you were so scared that I would, let you fall.
But I don't (but I don't) see (see) how I could when, (could when) I can't even take my eves off of you.
But I don't see how I could when, I can't even take my heart off of you.

All I ever wanted, was to fly away with you.
All I ever wanted, was to fly together.

All I ever wanted, was you.

Midnight on a beach in the Mediterranean
And I miss you
Even here, taking it all in
The sand, silvered, carries the moon on its shoulders
Is it possible to put this night to tune, and move it to you?

Don't cry, I'll bring this home to you,
If I can make this night light enough to move
Don't cry, i'll bring this home to you

Cargo ships move by, tracing on the horizon line
There's a luster from the city lights on the waves that kiss our feet
And we're thinkin' of goin' in (thinkin' of goin' in),
The time's getting thin

Don't cry I'll bring this home to you,
If I can make this night light enough to move
Don't cry I'll bring this home to you,
If I can make this, if I can make this...

Don't cry I'll bring this home to you,
If I can make this night light enough to move
Don't cry I'll bring this home to you

This is a city for not sleeping; The clocks are set by feel
At this moment, from where I sit, none of it seems real

Don't cry I'll bring this home to you,
If I can make this night light enough to move

Don't cry I'll bring this home to you,
If I can make this night light enough to move

If I can make this, if I can make this move
If I can make this move

(Instrumentals)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Pachuca Sunrise" by Minus The Bear is about someone who is watching the ocean as the sun rises and is badly missing the one they love. There are metaphors in this song such as the one in the first verse "The sands, silvered, carries the moon on it's shoulders". This refers to the sand carrying the moon, but it really means the moon is reflected off the sand making it a silver color. Another is in the second verse. "There's a luster form the city lights on the waves that kiss our feet". The waves aren't really kissing their feet but washing over them. The last is the line after that "The time's getting thin". The time is actully getting thin but is growing shorter.

"Party In Your Bedroom" by Cash Cash

There's a party in your bedroom
All night long
There's a party in your bedroom
All night long
There's a lot of talk about you
Cuz there's a party in your bedroom
All night long
Pretty girl, it's your show
Let it go when you're alone

There's a party in your bedroom
All night long
There's a lot of talk about you
Cuz there's a party in your bedroom
All night long
Pretty girl, it's your shot
Let it go when you're alone

This feels right, don't say goodnight

Walking down the street
Keeping hush-hush on the scene
No one knows you
Such a mystery
Opposite of fun 'til you turn the power on
Then you come out
Turning up the heat

Upstairs all alone, one click for a show
Your room feels on fire, you're out of control

There's a party in your bedroom
All night long
There's a lot of talk about you
Cuz there's a party in your bedroom
All night long
Pretty girl, it's your show
Let it go when you're alone

This feels right, don't say goodnight

Dancing with your hands
Turning strangers into friends
Touch the keys, please
And unlock my heart
You're free to be a freak
Change your picture every week
Show the camera you're a superstar

Upstairs all alone, one click for a show
Your room feels on fire, you're losing control

There's a party in your bedroom
All night long
There's a lot of talk about you
Cuz there's a party in your bedroom
All night long
Pretty girl, it's your show
Let it go when you're alone (x2)

This feels right, don't say goodnight

It's naughty pain
When I think of you, can't stay on track
'Cuz I can't wait
Can't stay on track, can't hide the fact
You're all I want, you're all I need
Let's get this party started
Kickin' hard, just you and me

There's a party in your bedroom
All night long
There's a lot of talk about you
Cuz there's a party in your bedroom
All night long
Pretty girl, it's your show
Let it go when you're alone (x2)

This feels right, don't say goodnight
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The song "Party In Your Bedroom" by Cash Cash is about pretty much that, a girl who has a huge party and finds someone she's in love with and they go up to her room and start "having a party" of their own. One of the metaphors in this song appears in the second verse. The lyrics are "Touch the keys please/And unlock my heart". This is a metaphor because you can't really unlock someones heart (It's comparing the unlocking to his heart) but it's not a simile because it doesn't use like or as.

"Son Of A Gun" by Search The City

So let me get this story straight,
this was just a chance you had to take
Did I even cross your mind?
This will be the last time you cross mine
We were thick as thieves,
just like a thief you stole the best of me
White lies and what lies in between

Whoa, for Heaven's sake I see right through you,
whoa, I've got secrets too
You're the gun,
and I can be your bullet you bite down on
Take your best shot 'cause you only get one

Marionette,
are your strings tied tight for proper movement?
Take a deep, deep breath,
I'm dying just to wrap these strings around your neck
But I'll stitch my eyes wide open
'cause I don't want to miss the look on your face
when I drive away
You know you're sharp
but sharp just doesn't cut it anymore
I'll show you a side of me you've never seen before

Whoa, for Heaven's sake I see right through you,
whoa, I've got secrets too
You're the gun,
and I can be your bullet you bite down on
Take your best shot 'cause you only get one

Blame it all on bottoms up,
and all the boys that kept filling your cup
I love the way you say
you don't remember anything

Whoa, for Heaven's sake I see right through you,
whoa, I've got secrets too
You're the gun,
and I can be your bullet you bite down on
Take your best shot 'cause you only get one
[x2]
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Just like Angels & Airwaves, Search The City also has similes (Simile in this case) in there song. The song "Son Of A Gun" is about a girl who goes to a party and gets drunk, hence the lines "Blame it on the bottoms up/All the boys who kept filling your cup/I love the way you say/You don't remember anything" and ends up cheating on their significant other. The other doesn't believe them and is saying well they've done stuff too so ha!, "Whoa, for Heaven's sake I see right through you/Whoa I've got secrets too." This pretty sums up the whole song. The simile (There's only one sadly) are the lines "We were as thick as thieves/Just like a thief you stole the best of me." This simile is a simile because you can really steal a part of someone but sometimes it feels like something took something from you (ie: heart, soul, love ect.)

"Sirens" by Angels & Airwaves

There's a weakness in the window
I place my footprints in a dark room
There's lonely voices like a scarecrow
In the hallway like a lost ghost
In the bedroom I see a shadow
From the moon with light from a candle
On a bed frame lies a girl
Her reflection in the mirror

La dada, dadada, dadada, dadada dada
I'd like your eyes wide
La dada, dadada, dadada, dadada dada
I'm knocking at your back door
La dada, dadada, dadada, dadada dada
Nervous like a knife fight
La dada, dadada, dadada, dadada dada
Be careful what you ask for

I do this from time to time
Where I can never wake from a bad dream
I do this from time to time
Where I can never say the things I mean
I do this from time to time
Where I like to watch you as you sleep
I do this from time to time
Where I like to think of you with me

It's a dark night on the west coast
Then a soft breeze as the sun rose
Then the phone rang like a gunshot
Like a siren on the beach rock
There's a message at the river
A certain package here to deliver
When the day breaks after nightfall
I will be there, you know I will

La dada, dadada, dadada, dadada dada
I'd like your eyes wide
La dada, dadada, dadada, dadada dada
I'm knocking at your back door
La dada, dadada, dadada, dadada dada
Nervous like a knife fight
La dada, dadada, dadada, dadada dada
Be careful what you ask for

I do this from time to time
Where I can never wake from a bad dream
I do this from time to time
Where I can never say the things I mean
I do this from time to time
Where I like to watch you as you sleep
I do this from time to time
Where I like to think of you with me
From time to time

I can her you breathe
I'm feeling the shake and the sound of my heartbeat
Can let go
Do you know I’m feeling the pain of my first love
I let it go
Can’t let go

I do this from time to time
Where I can never wake from a bad dream
I do this from time to time
Where I can never say the things I mean
I do this from time to time
Where I like to watch you as you sleep
I do this from time to time
Where I want to taste you as you breathe
From time to time

I do this from time to time
Where I can never wake from a bad dream
I do this from time to time
Where I can never say the things I mean
I do this from time to time
Where I like to watch you as you sleep
I do this from time to time
Where I like to think of you with me
From time to time
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The song "Sirens" by Angels & Airwaves has many similes throughout it. To begin, this is a beautifully written song about two kids who are in love with each other and sneak off at night to an abandoned house to be alone with one another. Now for the similes (Which are all italicized in the lyrics). The first is the line "There's lonely voices, Like a scarecrow." This is a simile because as we all know scarecrows don't talk, but if you think about it they probably are really lonely because there stuck in those fields all day. So if they did talk they'd probably say there lonely. Second is the line below it "In the hallway like a lost ghost." This is talking about those lonely voices, this simile is talking about how (like the scarecrow) ghosts are also seen as lonely, just putting more meaning on how quiet the house they are in is. Next is the line from the chorus "Nervous like a knife fight." It is possible to be nervous at a knife fight, thinking about a knife fight, or seeing a knife fight but it's pretty hard to be nervous like a knife fight. That's why this is a simile because you can as nervous as a knife fight but not nervous like one. Next are the two lines "Then the phone rang, like a gunshot/Like sirens on a beach rock." These two are similes because a phone can be loud but it can't ring like a gunshot and also even though the phone may seem like it's pulling it towards him it can't mesmerize him like the Sirens of Homer's "Odyssey".

"Into Your Arms" by The Maine

Song Analysis

“Into Your Arms” by The Maine

The band The Maine was started in 2007 while most of the members were still attending high school. The members are John O’Callaghan (Formerly of The Summer Set) for lead Singer, Garrett Nickelson on Bass, Pat Kirch on Drums, Kennedy Brock on Guitar and Back-up vocals, and Jared Monaco on Guitar. The Maine originally got their name from a Song by the band Ivory called “The Coast of Maine”. In late 2007 they were signed by Fearless Records and from their music careers really took off. Soon after being signed they released their debut EP called “The Way We Talk” and in 2008 released their album named “Can’t Stop Won’t Stop”. On this album is a song titled “Into Your Arms.” With its cute and comical lyrics, it makes a great love song.
The song “Into Your Arms” is about a girl who shows up in the singers life as seen in the lines “There was a new girl in town/She had it all figured out” and he instantly likes her seen in the line “I’ll state something rash/She had the most amazing…smile” (See? Humor) this is also seen in the first verse “With eyes like a sunset, baby/and legs that went on for miles”. The second verse “She made her way to the bar/I tried to talk to her but she seemed so far (she seemed so far)/ Out of my league/ I had to find a way to get her next to me/” shows how he tries to meet her, by talking to her at the bar but she doesn’t really seem into him. This is also shown in the third verse “Oh she’s slipping away/ I always freeze when I’m thinking of words to say/ Oh the things she does/ Make it seem like love/ If it’s just a game (Just a game)/ Then I like the way that we play”. He likes her but can’t really find the right thing to say to get him with her. The chorus “I’m falling apart/ But it’s falling apart/ I need to find away back to the start/ When we were in love things were better than they are/ Let me back into…/Into your arms/ Into your arms”. Shows that he did finally get her to fall in love with but now their having relationship problems or it’s not as good as what he thought it was going to be and he wants it to be like when they first met because it was better than what it is now. This song is almost set up like a story. The first verse shows when he met her, the second when he tried to get with her, the third he finally does and all throughout the chorus shows us the final product of him meeting and dating her.
There are many poetic devices in this song. As in all songs it needs to set a certain mood. The mood of this song is a theme of heartbreak but also a chance of hope since the singer doesn’t give a final outcome to the story. Also as stated before this song is a narrative song because it tells the story of: boy sees girl, boy likes girl, boy tries to get with girl, boy succeeds, relationship between isn’t as good as he’d hoped it would be. There are also similes in this song. One example would be the line “With eyes like a sunset, baby”. This is a metaphor because eyes can’t really be sunsets. Also the line “And legs that went on for days” because legs can’t really go on for days.
To conclude, this is a good love song with beautifully written lyrics and filled with poetic devices that is very relatable. Everyone has been in the situation where you like someone and finally get with them to find out that it’s not as good as you thought it was.

"Beauty In A Car Crash" by Flight 409

So we've become so cinematic
With every word you come unglued
So we'll let this settle, ferment and grow
'Til we're both completely out of control

How was I supposed to know?
Retrace my steps find my way home
How was I supposed to know?
Retrace these steps find our way home

So I'll push my seat back as far as it'll go
Hold on tight as your lungs collapse
I can't wait 'till the impact hits you in the face
You can finally see that we were made to be

How was I supposed to know?
Retrace my steps find my way home
How was I supposed to know?
Retrace these steps find our way home

With my lungs collapsing
I'm drowning in the backseat
Holding onto nothing
That's all that's left of me

These brakes are goin' out
I'm lookin' straight ahead
Before we both go out
I loved you half to death

These brakes are goin' out
I'm lookin' straight ahead
Before we both go out
I loved you half to death

How was I supposed to know?
Retrace my steps find my way home
How was I supposed to know?
Retrace these steps find out way home

There's beauty in a car crash
There's beauty in the payback
This is my big city shakedown
When there's beauty in the breakdown
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------The name of this song pretty much says it all. It is about two kids in love as seen in the line "Before we both go out/I loved you half to death" who probably go out partying and get in a car accident as seen in the line "The brakes are goin' out/ I'm lookin' straight ahead". The driver wishes they could take it back which is seen in the chorus "How was I supposed to know?/ Retrace my steps find my way home/How was I supposed to know?/Retrace these steps find our way home" The fact that he wants to retrace his steps shows that if he could take it back and do it again he would. I believe that the artist (Flight 409) wrote this song because they most likely witnessed it happening to someone they know.
